Limni Keriou beach guide Zante
Limni Keriou or Lake Keri is a picturesque and peaceful resort on the south coast of Zante, about 20 kilometres from Zakynthos town and located on the western side of Laganas Bay. A delightful enclosed harbour set below a pretty village and small, sand and pebble beach make Limni Keriou a well-known, and sometimes busy, Zante beauty spot.
Limni Keriou has only 150 permanent inhabitants but the numbers swell dramatically in summer. The beach slopes fairly gently into shallow waters so it is fine for families with children. A sprinkling of tavernas and café bars line both the beach and the attractive harbour in Limni Keriou.
Inland is the small village of Keri where there are several craft and souvenir shops among the traditional stone houses set in the narrow streets.
Surrounded by pine covered mountains, Limni Keriou has some good walks through forests and olive groves. A walk up to the Limni Keri Lighthouse offers some fine views over the bay.
There is a diving centre in Limni Keriou with spectacular dive sites nearby that include extensive underwater caves. Glimpses of octopus, lobsters and groupers are virtually guaranteed.
Taxi boats leave regularly for the offshore islet of Marathonis, also known as Turtle Island where there are turtle nesting beaches.
Limni Keriou excursion boats also tour the many caves that can be found along this part of the Zante coast. The best known cave, called Mavri Limni, or Black Lake, is big enough to take a swim although you will need a torch as it is so dark in there.
A few rooms are available but most get booked up for the high season. Limni Keriou has become a popular spot for tour operators in recent years. There are a few daily buses to Zakynthos Town.
The remarkable sea caves of Zante are made even more dramatic thanks to the pure white cliffs and seabed which enhances the azure colour of the water to create a simply stunning seascape.
The Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos is located in the heart of Zaknte Town in Solomou Square, in Zakynthos town and houses a rich and interesting collection of art and artefacts.
A boat trip to Shipwreck Cove is one of the most popular excursions for those on holiday in Zante and the beach must be considered one of the most spectacular sights in the Greek islands.
Argassi or Argasi beach is the nearest decent beach to Zakynthos Town and that does something to explain its popularity with UK tour operators. This is the perfect family friendly resort.
