The impressive cliffs of Gerakas stand at the end of the beach, a mix of limestone and sand that is said to make a natural sunblock.
Visitors used to daub themselves in the stuff but access to the cliffs is now restricted after several rock falls. The cliffs still make a very impressive sight.
Opposite the beach is the islet of Peluso where there are more turtle nesting sands. Most visitors to Gerakas beach will be staying at nearby Vassilikos, on the eastern side of the cape where there are several hotel complexes.
The road to Gerakas beach rarely gets busy except in the high summer and there is car parking just off the beach.
Away from Gerakas beach, there is some spectacular scenery for walkers to enjoy and several tracks and trails make it good for both mountain bikers and walkers. There is no village in Gerakas as such, just a collection of houses.
The remarkable sea caves of Zante are made even more dramatic thanks to the pure white cliffs and seabed which enhances the azure colour of the water to create a simply stunning seascape.
The Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos is located in the heart of Zaknte Town in Solomou Square, in Zakynthos town and houses a rich and interesting collection of art and artefacts.

Argassi or Argasi beach is the nearest decent beach to Zakynthos Town and that does something to explain its popularity with UK tour operators. This is the perfect family friendly resort.
