Ladiko beach guide Rhodes
Just south of the beach resort of Faliraki and located on the east coast and about 15 kilometres from Rhodes Town is the small resort village of Ladiko. Below the village is a small beach of fine sand and pebble, with some small rocks, set in a sheltered, horseshoe-shaped bay with an impressive rock promontory at the entrance.
Ladiko has been by-passed by many package tour firms and the beach was once little visited, even by the locals. But Ladiko has recently become a very popular, if small, holiday resort, especially favoured by Greek and Italian visitors.
Today, Ladiko is pretty well packed with tourist facilities and the sunbeds are now spread all around the shoreline and even over the rocks where they allow it.
There are no showers or toilets on Ladiko beach but there is a small beach cantina to supply all the basics. There are some steep cliffs all around the bay so the beach tends to get a lot of shade in the afternoons.
Ladiko beach and many of the nearby cliffs were used for a lot of location filming for the famous old war movie 'The Guns of Navarone'. One of the film's major stars, Anthony Quinn, once bought a holiday home near here, earning Ladiko Bay the local nickname Anthony 'Queen' Bay.
Ladiko beach is a popular port of call for caiques sailing from Rhodes Town out on tourist day trips and for boats ferrying tourists on Rhodes' round-island tours.
Another small sandy bay can be found just a few minutes walk to the south of Ladiko with a small taverna and a pleasant sand and pebble beach.
Ialysos is one of the three ancient cities of the holiday island of Rhodes. Ancient Ialyssos is located at the summit of a fortified hill at Filerimos about 15 km away from the city of Rhodes.
A favourite day trip destination for the island of Rhodes' coach tour operators the jaw dropping Monolithos castle is perched on the summit of a sheer 236 metre high rock outcrop.
The butterfly valley of Rhodes is located on the west of the island about five kilometres south of the village of Theologos and this is one of the most attractive destinations on the island.
Rhodes has been dubbed the Crusader Island thanks to its extraordinary wealth of medieval forts and monuments but nowhere is more impressive than the Old City area of Rhodes itself.
