Greens galore for Corfu golfers
Corfu boasts one of the best golf courses in Europe.
Golf has never been a top sport in Greece and the Greek Islands so it's a surprise to find a little known golf course on Corfu that turns out to be one of the top twenty championship courses in Europe.
The 18-hole golf, par-72 course nestles in the Ropa Valley is an ideal day out for golfers and their families with a club house serving up great lunches and snacks.
The Corfu Golf Club course opened 1971 and was designed by English architect Don Harradine. Players often comment on the seamless blend into the picturesque Ropa Valley and the clever hazards that help make this a demanding test for both low and high handicap players.

The course has been recently renovated, with some major work carried out on the bunkers and a new irrigation system that helps to keep the fairways and greens in peak condition throughout the year.
The holiday season is the most popular and Corfu enjoys warm sunshine and blue skies from May to October and even in high summer it enjoys cool breezes that blow in from the sea.
But golf on Corfu can be played throughout the winter, although it can rain a lot in December and January.
Over the past few years both the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a complete renovation. Bunkers have been reshaped, deepened, drained and filled with fine white sand, specially shipped in from the Greek island of Milos.
The Ropa Valley is on the east side of the island of Corfu in attractive countryside above the popular seaside resort of Ermones.
The attractive clubhouse is built of local stone and has a bar, a lounge area offering snooker and satellite TV and a restaurant where meals are served at reasonable prices.
The club can even cater for weddings and christenings as it has its own small church Agios Charalambos located next to the clubhouse and putting green.
The professional shop is very well stocked and golf bags and golf clubs can be hired out to holiday visitors. The practice ground is notably large and a putting green sits in front of the clubhouse.
